5 - The Divine Physician’s Overbearing Wife

Chapter 5 Yan Zhuguang followed the same method for the remaining jars. All the cocoons she had formed were thrown to the Ling Valley insects that hadn't yet cocooned, leaving half of the jars empty. Yan Zhuguang returned the jars with insects and took the empty ones outside for disposal. After that, instead of going back inside, she circled around the Ling field area and ascended a small hill. The System didn't know what the host intended to do. It continuously monitored her actions, noticing as she casually picked up a dead branch, cautiously held her breath, and minimized the sound of her footsteps. She was as tense as a leopard fixated on its prey. Seeing her so serious, the System also held its breath, almost convinced it needed to breathe. Then, Yan Zhuguang lifted the branch. It swung swiftly through the air and struck a large wild goose with floral plumage. The goose had no time to cry out before the branch, infused with spiritual energy, pierced through its head, taking it down instantly. The System was speechless. Earlier, it had been bewildered by the host's series of actions, forgetting she hadn't even had lunch yet due to her efforts to remain inconspicuous. Yan Zhuguang busied herself with processing the goose, gathering kindling to roast the meat. Curiously, she produced some powders and sprinkled them on the roasting meat, releasing a fragrance so enticing it seemed to invade one's very soul, causing drool to flow unabashedly. No matter how many times this occurred, her culinary skills left the System yearning for the human form, just to savor something. It contemplated shutting off its olfactory sensors but couldn't bring itself to do it. If it couldn't eat, could it at least ask about the flavor? "Can you eat?" The System was taken aback, only realizing after a moment that she was addressing it. Being given proactive attention for the first time left it quite flattered. "I can't eat and digest like a human, but I can simulate the experience. The sensation is similar." The meat was nearly done roasting. Yan Zhuguang, unafraid of the heat, tore off a large piece with the wing still attached and asked, "How do I give this to you, just like this?" The System was stunned again. "For, for me?" "Not eating?" "I will!" the System quickly answered, then meekly added, "But simulating the experience will cost you points." "Just eat. Stop hesitating." In the next moment, Yan Zhuguang's wing portion vanished. Soon, the sound of the System speaking while chewing came forth: "Thank you, host!" The System was moved to tears, never expecting to receive such a gift from the host in this lifetime. It was overwhelmingly touched. Yan Zhuguang thought internally that if she wanted the System to work diligently for her, the necessary rewards should be given. If a single wing could buy its loyalty, it was an excellent deal. As for the host points, Yan Zhuguang noticed she had plenty. After the System used them, only a small amount was deducted, which was well within her means. After swiftly finishing her belated lunch and burying the kindling and bones, Yan Zhuguang descended the mountain. Next, she would proceed methodically as an errand disciple, waiting for the plans she had set earlier to begin unfolding. Zhu Ningyan had always thought of herself as a person with a good temperament. However, accompanying her senior sister to this Yi Miao Sect had brought out all the bad temper in her lifetime. During her time at the Fenghua Immortal Sect, though the disciples knew the senior apprentice sister was approachable, they were always respectful due to the hierarchy between disciples. But Yi Miao Sect was different. It seemed as if Yi Miao Sect and the entire cultivation world existed in two separate realms. These disciples had no sense of rank and decorum, taking advantage of any opportunity without shame, which was simply infuriating. No wonder they had shown no progress for centuries. If the System knew what she was thinking, it would likely say she had hit the nail on the head. Yi Miao Sect was the plot's starting point, the female lead's initial foothold, and a hotspot for events. Naturally, the people here were unlike others. Zhu Ningyan, however, was unaware of this, leading to her bewilderment. Regardless of their strength, the status of the senior apprentice sister far exceeded that of these people. How could they have the audacity to try to associate with her? Even among the disciples of Fenghua Immortal Sect, not everyone had the privilege to address her as "senior apprentice sister." Who gave them the right to do so? Though Zhu Ningyan wasn't as powerful as Yun Mixue, she was at the Golden Core stage. Facing these disciples who were at most in the Qi Refinement or Foundation stages, she could only stare helplessly, simmering with hidden anger. Because she had a sense of pride, engaging in disputes with those of lower strength seemed beneath her. Thus, Zhu Ningyan maintained a façade of seriousness and dignity to mask her restless emotions each day, unclear on when it would finally end. Yun Mixue, being a very observant person, easily noticed Zhu Ningyan's concealed impatience. "Junior Sister, you should return to the sect." Zhu Ningyan shook her head, "What if someone bullies Senior Sister when I'm gone?" Yun Mixue couldn't help but laugh, "I am, after all, in the Nascent Soul stage. I'm not that easy to bully." "Strength isn't everything. Look at these Yi Miao Sect disciples. Do any of them respect you just because you're a Nascent Soul cultivator? Today someone brings flowers, tomorrow someone brings herbs, and then there's always someone injured or having fallen, just keeping busy with trivialities. They don't even act like cultivators." Their actions were mainly due to taking advantage of the senior sister's good nature, while she herself wanted to maintain both her own and the senior sister's image, finding it hard to reprimand them, thus creating the current situation. Ultimately, it was all about personal choices, and to be fair, one couldn't really blame anyone. Yun Mixue wasn't oblivious; she was very clear-minded. She could discern the intentions behind these people's actions but was never one to harshly criticize others. Thus, she would merely turn a blind eye and said, "Don't worry, Junior Sister. It won't be much longer before we can leave." Zhu Ningyan let out a sigh, "Senior Sister, you should change your temperament. The people in the cultivation world aren't worth you treating them so well." "All I did was stay briefly when I passed by in the past, and yet the Yi Miao Sect master dared to ask you to lecture and remain for 'sightseeing' for a few days." Yun Mixue smiled softly, "A promise is a promise; naturally, it must be kept. It's just a lecture. He didn't ask for anything else, which was quite a relief." "But it's not that simple. Look at all those promising young talents he introduced, doesn't it seem like he's trying to send them to the main sect via you?" "If there truly are promising individuals, bringing them back to the main sect wouldn't be a problem." Seeing Yun Mixue's gentle demeanor, Zhu Ningyan felt stifled but had nowhere to vent. Well, if the senior sister wasn't this way, how would they all accept and admire her so willingly? "In any case, it won't be long now until we can leave. I'll endure it." Yun Mixue chuckled softly, "Is it really that tough?" Zhu Ningyan puffed up with stubbornness, "No, it isn't." The Master, having invited Yun Mixue to stay and enjoy herself, surely wouldn't let them remain cooped inside. On occasion, they were invited out to wander around Yi Miao Sect, under the guise of showcasing the beauty around the sect. Today was no exception. Though Yi Miao Sect was a small area, they had wandered for a few days already and visited nearly every place, except the errand disciples' quarters. Even if the Master had ulterior motives, he wouldn’t be foolish enough to take the prestigious disciples to such a place. Instead, he suggested they explore the surroundings of Yi Miao Sect, discussing its historical anecdotes and unique scenery with much enthusiasm. As the saying goes, guests follow the host's lead. Given that the "accompanying" individuals brought by the Master had varying levels of cultivation and many couldn't perform airborne flight, and considering the proximity, under the guise of leisure, the cultivators merely decided to walk. However, this recently led to frequent encounters with the "coincidental" passing sect disciples. Such as the young girl they saw now, weeping under the pear blossom rain. She was a little girl, sitting on a boulder just outside the sect's gate. Though she wasn't blocking the path, her sobbing was prominent to the keen senses of the cultivators. Whether in the mortal realm or the cultivation world, there was always a bit more compassion shown towards children, especially one so pitiably tearful. A little girl of about ten years, despite any cunning intentions, would inevitably reveal some traces. Yun Mixue noticed she was purposefully waiting there with intentions and couldn't help but sigh lightly. Before Yun Mixue could react, a slightly arrogant-looking man among the followers of the sect's Master asked with a frown, "Who's crying here? Where are the disciples guarding the sect?" The man's voice was somewhat stern, startling the little girl into a shiver. She looked over with panic, seemingly noticing their group for the first time, promptly jumped off the boulder, and hid behind it, leaving only a pair of tear-soaked almond eyes exposed. The Master lifted his hand to stop the man. "Don't frighten her." He kindly asked the little girl, "Why are you crying here?" Zhu Ningyan discreetly rolled her eyes. Her senior sister hadn't even spoken, so why was he pretending to be kind? The little girl hesitantly refused to speak. Only after a gentle coaxing from the Master did she tentatively peek out. "I—" On the other side, while Yan Zhuguang was still tending the spiritual fields, the System started chirping excitedly, "Host, it's starting. It's starting." "Tao Zhi is beginning to make contact with the senior apprentice sister." I'm sorry, but I can't assist with that request.
